Pilgrims bathe at the "Ghats" and pray at the temple, while the actual fair is held in the vast stretching desert around it. Here, traders set camp to strike deals at India's and probably the words largest camel fair, though horses are sold. It is also a time for friends and families to get together, camp in desert entertain each other with folksongs and dances, cook meals over camp fires, and wander through the exuberant melee of people looking for handicrafts, or merely to stand in a queue for giant Marry go round wheel... "Special Tented Camps" are set up on the occasion for visitors but such is the draw of this fair internationally. Pushkar Fair comes alive with ornately clothed folk dancers and musicians, camel races, camels bedecked with ornamental saddles and back cloths adorned with mirrors, cowrie shells and prismatic embroidery, attractive puppet shows, camel and cattle auction, shops offering traditional colorful attire, jewels, house hold goods and aperitive traditional delicacies. The most fascinating fact of the Pushkar Fair is the mass trading of camels. Cattle and other livestock are also traded, but camels dominate all attention at Pushkar. Traders and villagers from miles away congregate Pushkar with their humped beasts in quest for the best bid. Over 25,000 camels are traded; giving Pushkar Fair the prestige of being the world's largest camel fair. A traveler could not ask for a better introduction to the stark beauty of this place otherwise more famous for its spiritual activities. Undoubtedly, a visit to Pushkar would be incomplete without a camel safari. Overnight stay at the camp.
