BACKWATERS AND TEA TRAIL OF KERALA
Day 01 : Arrive Cochin
On arrive in Cochin, you will be met & assist by our representative and transfer to the hotel for check in.
Cochin (Kochi) is spread across islands and promontories in a stunning location between the Arabian Sea and the Backwaters. The city was founded in 1341 when a flood created a natural safe port, which became the principal harbour for Malabar Coast’s spice trade. Cochin was on the main trade route between Europe and China. The rulers invited people of various religions to settle here, attracting the Jews and the Christians who built places of worship and their own communities.
Later in afternoon, you will take 10 minutes drive to Broadway, City's busiest commercial centres and you will find various wholesales shops – spices, clothing, stationeries, sports, vessel, jewellery, accessories etc.
Ten thousands of people from many parts of Kerala visits Broadway every day. You name it and you get it here. A steady walk through the narrow streets will sight the hundreds of shops here
Your guide will take you to the local shop and buy you chips to taste the best made chips .In this small place you will get an opportunity to see how different kinds of chips are made.
Later, you will walk up to Marine Drive and take exclusive motorboats for a harbor cruise. Cochin harbor is one of the finest natural harbors in Asia
You will pass through Bolgatty Island, Gundu Island, Cochin Shipyard and Vypeen Islands. At 1730 hrs, you will disembark at Fort Cochin.
Proceed to a local theatre called ‘Greenix’, a cultural dance theatre where you can witness live performance Kathakali dance and other performing Arts of Kerala.
At 2000 hrs, walk to Fort House Hotel, and a small hotel that serves authentic seafood. Your dinner will be served on the lawns overlooking the mouth of the sea.
After dinner, drive to back to your hotel.

Day 02 : In Cochin
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be welcomed with a surprise, when 12 Enfield 350 cc Motorbikes lines up in the portico to take you for the sightseeing of Cochin. You will sit behind your rider, who will ride you from the city to Fort Cochin (10 kms).
Your ride ends at the main entrance of Dutch Palace. Visit the Dutch Palace at Mattancherry (Friday closed), renowned for its wall murals depicting scenes from the Ramayana. Later you walk up to The Jewish Synagogue (Saturday closed) at the heart of what is locally called the Jew Town. You will be left free for some time in the Jew town. If interested, you will be also taken to the spices warehouse, where you can witness the cleaning and packing of various spices like pepper, cardamom etc.
Later in afternoon, you will drive to The St Francis Church, the oldest European Church in India. You will also witness the Chinese fishing nets in action, believed to have brought by Chinese, centuries ago.
After sightseeing, you will drive back to your Hotel.
Afternoon, drive to the residence of Mrs Nimmy Paul for a cooking demonstration & sumptuous Dinner.
This evening we will have our dinner with Nimmy Paul at her residence and experience the traditional flavors and preparations of Kerala in a comfortable and informal manner. Nimmy, professional cookery instructors, and her stockbroker husband Paul, have been involved in 'At Home' hospitality for more than twelve years. The couple belongs to the traditional Syrian Christian community in Kerala. In keeping with the tradition of their families they enjoy having guests and serving good food. Nimmy conducts cookery classes. She teaches guests the nuances of traditional Kerala recipes. She is also a food consultant to writers, chefs and magazines

Day 03 : Cochin/ Munnar
After breakfast, drive to Munnar.
Munnar is a beautiful hill station on the Western Ghats at about 1600 metres above sea level. There are lakes, reservoirs, forests and several tea estates in Munnar. Famous Tata Tea estate and factory is in Munnar. There is a wildlife sanctuary in the Eravikulam –Rajamala area in the Munnar forest division. Munnar was the summer resort of the British Government in the South.
This afternoon you will visit a Team Museum, where you will get the chance to watch the process and also the taste of Munnar Tea. You will also stroll through the tea plantations and witness hundreds of women at work.

Overnight at the hotel in Munnar.
Day 04 : Munnar/ Periyar
Breakfast at the hotel. Later drive to Periyar.
Thekkady
Periyar is South India’s most popular wildlife sanctuary, encompassing an area of 777 sq km. Set on the attractive man-made Periyar Lake; it attracts over 300,000 visitors a year. Though the sanctuary was made a part of Project Tiger in 1973, it is better known for its elephants.
Later in afternoon, Boat ride in Lake Periyar, and see the wildlife around the lake as you cruise along its banks. Apart from elephants, bison, sambar, wild boar, langur, otter and flying squirrel are common. There are also 246 species of birds and 112 species of butterfly.
Dinner at the hotel.
Over night stay at the hotel in Periyar.
Day 05 : Periyar/ Kumarakom
After breakfast, visit Connemara Tea Factory. Witness the tea process using the crushing, tearing and curling method. Enjoy a cup of Tea.
Later drive to Kumarakom (125 kms, 04 hrs). On arrival Kumarakom, check in at the resort.
Kumarakom, An unbelievably beautiful paradise of mangrove forests, emerald green paddy fields and coconut groves interspersed with enchanting waterways and canals adorned with white lilies. Situated on the Vembanad Lake, in this small water world you'll come across plenty of traditional country crafts, boats and canoes that will take you into the heart of the scenic lake.
The resort offers comfortable accommodation and exclusive leisure options (on payment basis) like an Ayurvedic massage, yoga, and meditation, boating, fishing, angling and swimming.

Over night at Kumarakom
Day 06 : Kumarakom
A full day experience of the Kuttanad backwater Village
After breakfast at the hotel, proceed for a day cruising in the Country Canoe for 01 hour. Later board a motorboat to explore the backwaters and village life around it. Motor boating through vembanad lake, one can also visit the emerald paddy fields, watch the shell collection procedures and witness the local fishing with nets. There is abundant variety of birds in and around the banks of vembanad, and the scope for bird watching.
Later on, proceed for R Block in Kuttanadu farmland where the cultivation is done on the lying 8 feet below the sea level. R block is one of the biggest man made islands on the Vembanad Lake. Here one can see the coconut, vanilla, arecanut, plantain and cocoa plantations and also witness coconut plucking procedure.
Later in afternoon, get disembarked at Kainady Heritage home, a 100-year-old heritage home on the banks of the River Manimala. Enjoy the Cyrian Christian lunch with the family.
Later cruise back to Kumarakom.
Dinner and over night at the hotel in Kumarakom.
Day 07 : Depart Cochin
After breakfast at the hotel, you will be transfer to Cochin airport.
After lunch at the Airport hotel, you will be transfer to Airport for your flight back home.
