BEACH, BACKWATERS AND BEAUTY OF KERALA

Day 01 : Kovalam

Arrival at Trivandrum. Proceed to Kovalam and check into the hotel.

Kovalam is a small coastal town in the southern Indian state of Kerala, south of Thiruvananthapuram. At the southern end of Lighthouse Beach is a striped lighthouse with a viewing platform. Palm-backed beaches also include Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach. Heading south, Vizhinjam Juma Masjid mosque overlooks the busy fishing harbor. Inland, Sagarika Marine Research Aquarium displays technology used in pearl production.

Activities: Visit to Kovalam beach in the Evening: Kovalam offers an excellent diversity with Kovalam beach to suit all desires and occasions. Three curve shaped beaches, alienated by stony outcroppings, from major attraction of this coastal resort.

Day 02 : Kovalam

Morning after breakfast proceeds for a tour of Trivandrum.

Thiruvananthapuram (or Trivandrum) is the capital of the southern Indian state of Kerala. It's distinguished by its British colonial architecture and many art galleries. It’s also home to Kuthira Malika (or Puthen Malika) Palace, adorned with carved horses and displaying collections related to the Travancore royal family, whose regional capital was here from the 18th–20th centuries.

Activities:

Visit Napier Museum: The Napier Museum is an art and natural history museum. The museum houses a rare collection of archaeological and historic artefacts, bronze idols, ancient ornaments, a temple chariot and ivory carvings. It also contains the Sri Chitra Art Gallery, which contains works from Raja Ravi Varma and Nicholas Roerich, as well as examples of Mughal and Tanjore art.

Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple: The temple is built in an intricate fusion of the indigenous Kerala style and the Dravidian style of architecture associated with the temples located in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, featuring high walls, and a 16th-centuryGopuram. While the Moolasthanam of the temple is the Ananthapuram Temple in Kasargod, architecturally to some extent, the temple is a replica of the Adikesava Perumal temple located in Kanyakumari District. It is the richest Hindu temple in the world.

Trivandrum Zoo: Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is one of the oldest of its kind in India. Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma, who ruled Travancore between 1830 and 1847, established a menagerie where royal tigers, panthers, cheetahs, deer, boar, and other wild animals were kept.

Spend the evening back at the Kovalam beach. Overnight at Kovalam.

Day 03 : Alleppy

Morning after breakfast, proceed to Alleppey and check into the houseboat.

Houseboats are huge, slow moving exotic boats used for leisure trips. They are the remodelled version of kettuvallams of olden times which were used to carry tons of rice and spices. The present day house boat is a private boat with fully furnished spacious bath attached bed rooms, hygiene kitchen, dining area and private front deck to capture the beauty of the back waters. The houseboat check in time is 12 noon and the cruise and stay will be for 20 hours. The menu in the houseboat is fixed with different fixed menu options for Vegetarians and Non Vegetarians.

Day 04 : Thekkady

Morning after breakfast, proceed to Thekkady and check into the hotel.

Thekkady in Kerala, India’s largest wildlife sanctuary is a dream destination for any tourist visiting India. Thekkady is located about 257 km (160 mi) from Trivandrum. The sanctuary is famous for its dense evergreen, semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests and savanna grass lands.

Activities:

Boating inside the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: Periyar National Park, also known as Periyar Tiger Reserve, is in the mountainous Western Ghats of Kerala, southern India. This wildlife sanctuary is home to tigers and a significant elephant population, as well as rare lion-tailed macaques, sambar deer, leopards and Indian bison. In the park's north, Periyar Lake is popular for boat rides.

Spice Plantation Tour : Columbus went west to find the sea route to the land of spices but found America. Vascodagama, the Arabs and other explorers and traders came to India for the same purpose and stumped on the spice rich south western tip of India, now known as Kerala.

The spice plantation tour is in one of the most important activities outside the reserve that a visitor can engage in. It is an opportunity to see why the Kerala cuisine is so different from most of the other Indian cuisines. The tour gives you a chance to enjoy cardamom, pepper, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and many other varieties of spices and medicinal plants.

Elephant Ride optional cost: Open to the skies accompanied only by the rhythmic – scuff- scuff- scuff of elephant’s feet and creaks of the wooden howdah. The ride can be a mix of moments of pure terror interspersed with long period of utter peace.

Day 05 : Munnar

Morning after breakfast proceed to Munnar and check into the hotel.

Munnar is a town and hill station located in the Idukki district of the south-western Indian state of Kerala. The name Munnar is believed to mean "three rivers", referring to its location at the confluence of the Mudhirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers.

Activities:

Visit Anayirankal Dam: Anayirankal Dam and Lake are among the most scenic spots near Munnar and should form a part of your itinerary when you plan a trip to this charming hill station in Kerala. The splendid view of the undulating tea plantations that stretch across extensively on the slopes of the hills is a truly enchanting sight. Anayirankal Dam has snared an exclusive niche on the tourist map due to this singular attraction, coupled of course with the bewitching Anayirankal Lake.

Visit Gap road: Munnar Gap Road is a narrow road between Munnar and Kumily, where one can watch beautiful landscapes.

Day 06 : Cochin

After breakfast proceed to the hotel in Cochin.

Kochi also known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, was an important spice trading centre on the west coast of India from the 14th century onward, and maintained a trade network with Arab merchants from the pre-Islamic era. Occupied by the Portuguese in 1503, Kochi was the first of the European colonies in colonial India. It remained the main seat of Portuguese India until 1530, when Goa was chosen instead. The city was later occupied by the Dutch and the British, with the Kingdom of Cochin becoming a princely. Kochi ranks first in the total number of international and domestic tourist arrivals in Kerala

Activities:

Visit to Fort Cochin Mattancherry: Fort Kochi is a region in the city of Kochi in the state of Kerala, India. This is part of a handful of water-bound regions toward the south-west of the mainland Kochi, and collectively known as Old Kochi or West Kochi.

Visit to Marine drive: Marine Drive is a picturesque promenade in Kochi, Kerala, India.[1]It is built facing the backwaters, and is a popular hangout for the local populace. Ironic to its name, no vehicles are allowed on the walkway. Marine Drive is also an economically thriving part of the city of Kochi.[2]With several shopping malls it is as an important centre of shopping activity in Kochi. Major fast food joints, including Marrybrown, DiMark, and Coffee Bar are present along the walkway.

Overnight at Cochin

Day 07 : Cochin airport drop.

Morning after breakfast check out from the houseboat/ hotel and proceed to Cochin International Airport for return journey.
