Regal Dinning at The Darikhana, Jagmandir, Udaipur – At the palace on an island in Lake Pichola

A magical place in a magical surrounding, filled with history and culture, a place to get away from everything and be transported to the glorious times of the Maharanas. Warm hospitality and professional service make this the perfect place away from home. A one in a life time experience… Jagmandir Island Palace – a palace on an island on Lake Pichola – has been adorning pages of glossy magazines and lifestyle media from all over the world. Global and indian celebrities have been attending the Regal Weddings, celebratory dinners, special events and musical soirees organised at heritage-venues of this 17th century pleasure-palace of the Maharanas of Mewar.

The Darikhana restaurant is an exclusive venue for stylish dining. It’s a colonnaded restaurant, specially air-conditioned for guests, and offers an select international cuisine. A varied a la carte menu is offered for evening dining. The specially prepared four-course dinner, is highly recommended.

Gourmet dinner at the hotel

Our Indian chef conducts a Spice talk for all the guests. He explains about all the traditional Indian spices,

their usage in Indian food and their various other values. This has been a very interesting and well appreciated topic for all our guests in the past. After the 20-30 minute talk, we could distribute some notes and spice pouches for the guests to take home. We can again organise traditional dance and music for the evening.

For the meal, we recommend a Thali Service – a regal Indian way of dining. "Thalis", which are a variety of menu items served on one platter, are a customary style of meal in India.

A Thali is an Indian meal with contents varying from state to state. Depending on the restaurant or the region you are in, the Thali consists of delicacies native to that region. A Thali typically comes as a North Indian or a South Indian. The North Indian Thali starts you out with Pooris, Chappattis (Rotis), different vegetarian specialties (curries), usually a sweet, and other miscellaneous items. The South Indian Thali comes with applams papad, rice delicacies and similar items from the North Indian. Both of these usually come with "bottom-less" refills on all components of food; the idea is that one eats until fully satisfied.

Gala Darbar Evening at Samode Palace

This evening around 7:30 pm leave for Samode Palace (45 minutes drive). At around 7 pm you will leave your hotel for a one hour bumpy bus ride outside Jaipur to an area called Samode. At the village of Samode, the old havelis (mansions) and their paintings are full of character. At the head of the enclosed valley is the remarkable Samode Palace, now converted into a hotel. The winner of the award for the best heritage hotel in the country, for 5 consecutive years, the Palace (which is over 300 years old) has been meticulously restored offering a retreat into an aesthetically beautiful environment where visitors can enjoy India's natural beauty and rich history. Samode Palace is one of India's most charming and romantic hotels. The Palace is fabulously decorated with 300 year old fine Shekhawati style wall paintings (hunting scenes, floral motives etc.) which still look almost new. Around the first floor of Durbar Hall are magnificent kiosks decorated like Sheesh Mahal. From here you look down through screens into the grand Durbar Hall itself with its huge chandelier suspended from four large rings in the ceiling. From the village gate you will proceed to the palace on camels and camel carts accompanied by a procession of locals holding fire torches to greet the group in a royal procession. The sounds of drums and horns will fill the air as the buses arrive at the venue. As the guests enter the gates of the palace flower petals are showered on them and girls in Rajasthani costumes garland everyone as they enter. A traditional turban will be tied to the head of the male guests. The entire area is illuminated in a magical way to make it look like a fairyland. Special entertainment of folk dancers is arranged and a lavish dinner is laid out(depending on the number of pax and availability, dinner can also be served on solid silver plates). The evening is brought to an end with a beautiful display of fire-works.
